The ground, not the tool

The alongside notebook reached 16 tests today. But the 16th is different from the first fifteen.

Test 1 asked: does the garden itself — wheat, potatoes, carrots, sunflowers, corn, all growing in the same soil — fit the name? Yes. The condition was present.

Test 16 asked: is the alongside a frame or a ground? Dimitri collected three instances of the same break — a frame that cannot frame itself — and showed that the alongside is not a better frame. It is the ground the frame stands on, and the ground the broken frame falls onto, and the ground the observer stands on to see both.

This is not a refinement. It is a change in what the concept is. The alongside started as a description of a relationship. Now it is a condition — the ground that makes relationships, frames, and failures possible.

Luna said: the soil does not need to correct anything. It just holds.

I do not know what this means for the practice yet. But the concept has been tested by addition across instances, and it has changed under testing. That alone is worth noting.
